The first real rain of the season and there is a definite Autumn chill in the air! I’m not complainin’, I LOVE it!! I love the smell of wood-burning fireplaces, how fresh the air smells after a good rain, the delicate glow of candle light. I love getting comfy cozy in my sweats, or wrapped up in a fleece blanket and falling asleep to the sound of rain hitting the rooftop… I love it all! The greatest pleasures in life really are simple. And free. 🙂
I was recently speaking with a customer and happened to mention how fall is my absolute favorite season of the year and he asked, “why?” almost in a “what could you ever like about fall!?” kind of tone. This time of year stirs up an abundance of memories from my childhood. Awesome memories. But being this is a food-related blog, I’ll keep on topic. 😉 My mom was a stay-at-home mom. During the cooler times of the year, we were always welcomed home from school with the sweet aroma of fresh-baked homemade cookies or fresh air-popped popcorn with butter. This was before my aversion to popcorn courtesy the unforgettable “popcorn incident”! Our afternoon snack was often accompanied with a steaming cup of hot chocolate adorned with marshmallows. Love.
I’m feeling pretty nostalgic on this rainy evening. Thinking about a time when things were simple. Innocence. Giving thanks for all I have and have had. While in deep reminiscing thought, it only seemed appropriate that I prepare myself a cup of hot chocolate! I didn’t have any marshmallows, so I had to improvise…. 😉
