Christmas Time is Here!

It’s that time of year again. Thanksgiving came in a blink of an eye and the Christmas season arrived in full swing! Christmas carols are playing in stores, elevators and radio stations. Twinkling lights are hung and those huge yard snow globes are inflating in neighborhoods everywhere. Tree lots have been set-up in parking lots overnight, beautifully decorated trees are displayed in front windows and pine wreaths adorn front doors giving a warm welcome to visitors. 🙂 Oh how I love the smell of fresh pine!

I love this time of year! I love the way it makes me feel. I love how songs and scents of the season evoke treasured memories.  Christmas isn’t about finding the best deal or trampling others for the last “must have” on the shelf. It’s about spending time with family and friends. It’s about appreciating and enjoying what we have. It’s about forgiveness and finding peace and happiness within oneself. It’s about giving without expectations. Christmas isn’t something that is found in a department store, it’s a feeling. A wonderful feeling!

Having spent the last couple of days with family for Thanksgiving and as we transition from one holiday into the next, I thought I’d share a few pictures from my family’s gathering.  Mostly food related. Of course! 😉

Before the feast…

Onion Marmalade & Goat Cheese baked in Puff Pastry. Courtesy my sister! Recipe coming soon!

My moms famous cheese ball spread on a cracker. That's the closest I'll get to processed cheese. 😉

Prosciutto and Brie on a wheat cracker. Mmmm.. Mmmm.. GOOD!!

That's a throwback alright!!

THE  feast…

THE turkey, wearing it's "hair net", basted in butter and white wine..

So my mom tried to nix mashed potatoes this year! I couldn't let that happen!! I was a little disappointed that we didn't have "traditional mashed potatoes", but I will say these were pretty damn good!

Mmmm mashed potatoes!!

A beautifully set table with "Dorothy's" china.. LOL!!!

Thanksgiving table centerpiece.

The bird is golden and outta the oven!

My moms beautiful homemade cranberry and orange sauce.

Roasted Brussel Sprouts. This is the *only* way I'll eat these bad boys..

Roasted Butternut Squash. Best quote of the evening, "these don't taste like carrots!" ~ my dad!

"Hooch Potatoes" ~ sweet potatoes with brandy (I think..) and a yummy topping. I like the topping.. LOL!

Heh hmm.. my plate! Delicious!!

THE  desserts… well, a few of  them anyway!

Chocolate Chip Pie! Courtesy me. 🙂

Milky Way Cupcakes! Courtesy me. 🙂

This holiday season, I encourage each of you to spend more time with loved ones.  Feel the season. Slow your pace and enjoy the moment before it slips away. Make memories.  Speak softly and kindly. Stroll the aisle of  Toys R’ Us and pick up a few childhood favorites to donate to Toys For Tots. See the season thru a childs eyes with anticipation, innocence and joy! 🙂
