Like Mother, Like Daughter

Isn’t it funny ladies how when we’re young, we hear comments along the lines of being like our moms?  This at a time that our appreciation level for our mothers isn’t quite what it should be, therefore we can’t even fathom the thought.  Be like our moms?! Pfft.. seriously!? Never!!

Well. I’m here to say, in writing, that I am very much like my mom! And proud of it!! 🙂  Mom, pick yourself up off the floor!! And really, who better to be like!? A woman who has always put the needs of others ahead of herself.  A woman who loves her family with all she has.  A woman who has never put less than 110% of herself  into anything she does.  A woman who made a home that her children, now adults, love to come “home” to. 🙂

I surprised my parents with a quick visit yesterday afternoon.  As I walked thru their front door, I was met by the rich aroma of chocolate cookies hot out of the oven and two very crazy dogs.  I flashed back to my childhood and coming home from school. I stood there for a moment to take it all in. However with two dogs scaling my legs, I really had no choice but to stand there. 😉  It was a cold Autumn day but the warmth of my parents home made me quickly forget just how chilly it was out.  Warning: here comes a June Cleaver moment.  Meant with the utmost respect of course!  I walked into the kitchen to my dad finishing up lunch and my mom plating up Chocolate Thumbprint cookies. My mom, as she always does, greeted me with a hug and then with a spatula in one hand, offered to make me a sandwich. My mom then proceeds to tell me that she made three types of cookies. Next up in the oven, Black Forest Crinkles.

Those who know me, know just how much I’m like my mother.  For those who don’t, a little glimpse… I spent all day baking today.  No special occasion.  No real reason, other than, I can.  Just like mom. 🙂 I’ve had a pot roast in the oven for the last 3 1/2 hours.  My home smells delicious! I’ve made some beautiful home-made Milky Way Cupcakes with Caramel Buttercream Frosting (see another blog entry in the next few days for these! :)). I write this entry with the warmth and glow of a fire in the fireplace. The best compliment’s I’ve received are from those who’ve said they feel relaxed and welcomed when spending time in my home. 🙂

Thank you mom for all you are and all you’ve done! I am forever grateful for the lessons you’ve taught and continue to teach. Thanks to both you and dad for creating a home filled with love and unforgettable memories.
