Magic Mug Cake!

What if I told you that you could have a decadently delicious chocolate cake prepared and baked in 5 minutes? What if I also told you that you probably have all the ingredients to make said cake NOW? Would you run to your cupboards and get to baking?

I cannot take credit for this recipe in any way, shape or form. But I will take credit for sharing! The recipe, not the cake. Bake your own!  😉 I ran across this recipe on Facebook.  Proof that Facebook is good for something. After doing an immediate mental inventory of my kitchen baking supplies while laying in bed, attempting to go to sleep, my first thought was that I could make this cake at work! Funny thing. When I shared the recipe with my coworker his first reply was, “we can make that here!” Yes. We. Can. 🙂  And knowing us, we probably will. Hopefully we’ll have better luck then we did with the cake we “baked” using an Easy Bake Oven.  Yes, we did. LOL!

My initial excitement was shot down a bit when I shared the recipe and my plan to make it with a friend who responded, “Been there, done that! That was so 1997 when I was selling Tupperware.” BUT IT’S CHOCOLATE CAKE!!! AND IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES!! I don’t care what anyone says. I’m making it. Well, I made it. And I enjoyed every dense and delightful bite! Whatta ya think now!? 😉

Magic Mug Cake

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
Splash of vanilla extract
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
Powder Sugar for dusting (optional)
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to your mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).  The cake will rise over the top of the mug. Allow to cool a little, dust with powder sugar and place on a plate if desired.

This cake is dense and chocolate-y but not overly sweet.  Although I did add chocolate chips, I preferred the bites without.  The chocolate chips all sank to the bottom. Add a dollop of fresh sweetend whip cream or a scoop of your favorite ice-cream for a sweet touch. 🙂 If you’re feeling extra generous, share this magic cake with someone special – one mug easily makes enough for two!
